Tour begins and ends at Kathmandu

Mt. Kailas is a mysterious mountain for travelers. But for Buddhist, Hindus and Bonpo faithful it is the abode of God Shiva; it is their sacred land. Kailas peak and Mansarover Lake are situated at 4500 meter above sea level; it is at the highest elevation on the Tibetan plateau. It is the source of holy rivers of south Asia like Indus, Sutlej, Brahamaputra and Karnali. Despite it's barren and dry features the lake and the mountain has magnetic influence to devotees and visitors alike. The journey starts from Simikot, travel to Yari, cross a high pass at Narala and descend to Humla Karnali River to reach the border village of Hilsa and Khojarnath.

Drive to the region's trading center at Taklakot (Purang). Green and wet monsoon weather changes to dry, cold and sunshine at the plateau. The sky is deep blue with scattered cloud. From Taklakot drive to Mansarover Lake and onward to Darchen. Walk around Mt. Kailas. Drive to Kyirong - Nepal's Kerung boarder and then to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu, upon arrival transfer to hotel, stay overnight in Kathmandu Hotel

Day 02: Free day in Kathmandu, Obtain trekking permit and sort our equipment-Stay in Hotel in Kathmandu

Day 03: In Kathmandu, final preparation, trek briefing, Stay in Hotel in Kathmandu

Day 04: Afternoon: Fly to Nepalgunju, transfer to Hotel. Overnight in Nepalgunj.

The flight duration is about one hour. Nepalgunj is located in the far south west of Nepal. It is a busy crowded city, which lies close to the Indian border.

Day 05: Fly to Simikot (2856m) then trek to Dharapuri (2400m) – Local Home Stay

Fly by fixed winged Charter flight to Simikot, the headquarters of Nepal's most remote district, Humla. After meeting our crew, set out for trek, climbing up from the airstrip on a rocky trail past fields of barley and wheat, ascend a forested ridge above the town of Simikot, before making a long steep decent past Dandaphoya. The trail is then fairly level, through walnut and apricot trees, until you come to the scattered village of Dhara Pokhari which is divided by the Yakba Khola.

Day 06: Trek to Salli Khola (2400m) - Local Home Stay

Leave campsite and then cross a long screed slope and follow the river to a waterfall near the shepherds' camp at Chachera. The trail then climbs over a ridge and bypass the village of Kermi before entering a big valley with walled fields of potato and buckwheat. After walking through a sparse pine forest you will descend from the ridge to the Salli Khola. Camp by the river.

Day 07: Trek to Muchu (2920m) - Local Home Stay

Cross the river and climb over a rocky ridge before descending to the gray waters of the Humla Karnali. After crossing another ridge there comes a sandy meadow where goat herders often camp by the river. Beyond the meadow the valley narrows and cross several more ridges, passing the villages of Yalbang and Yangar. The trail then winds its way precariously above the river before you cross a suspension bridge to the village of Muchu.

Day 08: Trek to Sipsip (4330m)- Local Home Stay

From Muchu, the trail follows over a ridge to the Tumkot Khola and then along the rocky streambed for a short distance before beginning a steep climb through a rock-filled gully. Pass through Palbang and its bright yellow mustard fields to the small settlement of Yari and beyond here the route climbs up the valley towards a pass, the Nara Lagna. Camp below the pass in a meadow known as Sipsip.

Day 09: Trek to Sher, drive to Taklakot - Guesthouse Accommodation

After a short climb from the river you will reach Sher, which is a small but busy trading post. You should reset your watch here to China time, which is 2 hours and 15 minutes ahead of Nepal. At Sher your Tibetan guide and vehicle will be waiting for you. Board the vehicle for an hour and a half’ drive to Taklakot, which is also known as Purang.

Day 10: Drive to Manasarovar ((4558m) - Guesthouse Accommodation

Acclimatization, lay over day can be used for any other emergency requirement.

Day 10: Explore Mansarover lake and Chiu Monsastery (4450m) - Guesthouse Accommodation

Free day at Manasarovar. This rest day allows your bodies to acclimatized to the altitude. Exploring fascinating places around the holy lake. You may visit the picturesque Chiu Monastery on the northwest shore of the lake with the imposing sight of Mt Kailash in the background.

Day 11: Drive to Darchen (4500m) – Guesthouse Accommodation

Continue to drive north from Chiu Gompa twards Mt. Kailash. Darchen is a small settlement at the bottom of the southern slopes of Holy mountain and until recently this used to be a Drokpa (nomadic herder) tented village with no permanent homes. Now there are mixture of stone houses and nomadic tents. All the pilgrims visiting Mt. Kailash start their parikrama (or circumambulation) from here. In the afternoon walk around the village and visit the tents selling commodities to pilgrims. Overnight stay would be at the Geust House.

Day 12: Trek to Dira Phuk Gompa (4900m) - Guesthouse Accommodation

The trek around Kailash is a pious thing to do for both Hindus and Buddhist. On the first day you hike up the western valley or the Lha Chu. At Tarpachan meadows there is a flagpole and, if the weather is clear, you can have a stunning views of the Holy mountain The Gompa of Chugu is seen on the far side near a tall waterfall. From you camp the north face of Mr. Kailash presents an amazing sight to a lucky few. Camp will be made opposite the Monastery at Dira-Phuk.

Day 13: Trek to Drolma La pass (5400m) to Zuthul Phuk Gompa (4700m) - Guesthouse Accommodation

The trail to the Drolma La pass gains height steadily through fields of stone carains built by countless pilgrimages. The terrain is rocky and there is usually some snow on the pass. At the Drolma La pass there is a huge boulder festooned with strings of colorful prayers flags that marks the highest point in the journey around this most holy of mountains. On your descent you pass by the holy Gauri Kund lake where pilgrims fill their bottles to take home. The water dflows own the beautiful eastern valley of the Dzong Chu river. You will reach the cave monastery at Zuthul Phuk. Camp at near Zuthul Phuk.

Day 14: Trek to Darchen (4500m) - Guesthouse Accommodation

This morning before setting off down the valley you will visit the cave monastery of Zuthul Phuk. This is famous as the meditation retreat of the Tibetan saint Milerapa. The prints of his psalms on the roof of the rock cave is believed to have been left behind when he lifted the rock to make more room inside. Afterwards you will continue down the valley to get to Darchen. It takes about 3 hours. Rest of the afternoon is free to rest or walk up the hill behind Darchen for a great view of Mt. Kailash. Overnight stay at Darchen guest house.

Day 15: Drive to Kyirong, at Kyirong Country –  Guesthouse Accommodation

Day 16: Drive Kyirong to Kathmandu- Mini bus or coach – Hotel Accommodation

After going through immigration, you will drive down to the bridge and cross the bridge to Nepal. Transport will be waiting for you to bring back to Kathmandu, arrive Kathmandu in the evening.

Day 17: In Kathmandu- free day

Day 18: Transfer to airport, depart Kathmandu
