Langtang National Park covers an area of approximately 1770 sq. Km. It is the largest national park in Nepal. It is located in the central Himalayan belt. It cover both the subtropical and alpine zone. About 1000 plants species, 160 birds and 30 mammals have been identified in this region. Langtang valley is famous for its wild flowers that blooms during spring and summer. From Betrawati, a small village on Trishuli river, the road gradually ascend to Dhunche. You will travel on foot to langtang National Park. The open valley at Langtang gradually unfold as you ascend from ghore tabela through scattered Tamang villages.
At Langtang you visit Buddhist monastery at Kyanjin Gompa (3811m), cheese factory.
Day 01. Travel to Syabrubenshi (1660m) 8 hours drive - Lodge/Tea house accommodation
About 30 minutes out of Kathmandu, you pass through the town of Kakani where there are great views of the Ganesh Himal is seen. Trisuli is a busy bazaar called Trisuli Bazaar. The river, which flows Southwest,is very popular with rafting.Drive further via Dhunche (1970m) which is an attractive village with large stone houses, you get an excellent views of Gheng (6581m) and Langtang Lirung (7246m) to the north and Ganesh (7460m) to the west.Drive along the road descend to trisuli River and to Thulo Bharkhu than steep up to ridge through the pine woods. From here you have fine views up the valley towards the Tibetan border - about 20km away. The trail out of Bharkhu climbs a steep slope to the top of a ridge (2300m) where there is a good area to take a break. This is good place for bird watching. You will entered the Langtang Valley now and you can see Ganesh Himal to the west, Tibet to the north, and Langtang Lirung in the east.
Day 02. Lama Hotel (2560m) - Lodge/Tea house accommodation – 5 hours walk
After breakfast, you will start today’s trek. The trail ascends on a ridge and reach Ghopcha Khola after some walking. Soon after, you will get the opportunity to get closer view of some wildlife, refreshing woods, terraced fields, cascades, lush vegetation and suspension bridge on the way. The trek will be even more interesting as you will be welcomed by roadside local teashops time and again. As you walk further, you will come to Langtang Khola, which will add beauty to your journey. Finally you will arrive at Lama Hotel at an altitude of 2560m.
Day 03. Langtang (3506m) - Lodge/Tea house accommodation – 6 hours walk
From Lama Hotel the trail climbs steadily to Ghora Tabela with glimpses of Langtang Lirung (7246m) through the trees. At times the trail becomes very steep but only for short distances. Gradually the air becomes thinner and the climate colder. At Ghora Tabela (3048m) the trail leaves the forest and a spectacular view of Langtang Lirung appears. Ghora Tabela was once a Tibetan resettlement camp but is now an army post. Continue up the valley, leaving the forests behind, the trail ascends steadily up to Langtang village, passing below a monastery about 30 min beforehand. Langtang is an interesting Tibetan-style village with stone- walls enclosing houses and fields where you just might see your first yaks. The Langtang National Park headquarters is located here. After Langtang, you can see a community of typical flat-roofed Tibetan houses and the valley flattens and broadens into open pasture. This is perfect for raising yaks, and you will see these imposing beasts everywhere.
Day 04. Kyanjin gompa (3811m) - Lodge/Tea house accommodation –3 hours walk
The valley is U-shaped was carved by a glacier. Below Langtang, the valley has the characteristic V-shape of a river-carved valley. Leaving Langtang, you ascend gradually to a chorten (a small Tibetan Buddhist stupa) behind which is a very long mani wall. The trail passes two small villages and the village widens. You cross several streams and a moraine before arriving at Kyanjin Gompa (3800m). Between Langtang and Kyanjin Gompa, the views just get better and better where you will see Yansa Tsenji (6580m) and Kimshun (6750m) to the north and the Langtang Himal to the northwest. Take a good rest and allow your body to acclimatise with the high altitude as much as possible to be fully-prepared for more ascending during the next day.
Day 05. Lama Hotel - Lodge/Tea house accommodation - 6 hours walk
From Kyangjin, you descend back to Lama Hotel. You follow the same trail through Langtang Khola, Langtang village and Ghora Tabela till you arrive at Lama Hotel. You will stay overnight here after a day long trek.
Day 06. Syabru beshi (1660m) - Lodge/Tea house accommodation – 5 to 6 hours walk.
Again you descend further down towards Syabrubeshi. You will meander through the same trail but grasp the opportunity to see the beauty of nature and rural life which you might have missed before. Your day will conclude at a comfortable hotel in Syabrubeshi.
Day 07. Travel to Kathmandu (8 hours)
After a 6/7 hour bus drive through the hilly highway, you will conclude your trip in Kathmandu.
