Everest Base camp and Gokyo Trek - 21 days

This is a great trek that takes you to the high valleys of the Khumbu and the villages,monasteries and gives you a chance to know Sherpa way of life. You fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and follow the Dudh Kosi valley up to Namche. You will spent few days for acclimatization. Visit Khumjung for incredible views of Kantega and Thamserku and the Nuptse-Lhotse wall with Everest rearing above. Trek further to Luza and to Gokyo.From Gokyo, you will join the main trail to Everest Base Camp. This route provides a magnificent approach to the Khumbu glacier with unbelievable vistas of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu, tranfer to hotel
Day 02: In Kathmandu, free day to explore Kathmandu own, evening trek briefing and last minute gear sortout, stay at Hotel

Day 03: Trek to Phakding (2623m): Guest House Accommodation

Fly to Lukla airstrip at 2805 meter and hike 3 hours to campsite along the Dudh Kosi river

Day 04: Trek to NamcheBazar (3440m):  Guest House Accommodation

A short and easy morning walk then a steep switch back trail up to Namche Bazar. This main Sherpa town sits at 3445 meter and is the center of all travel and commerce in and out of Khumbu. Khumbu is the name of the region in North East Nepal where in lies Mt. Everest. On the trail up to Namche Bazar one can get the first view of the Everest massif looming far in the north.

Day 05: Trek to Thame (3800m) - optional or rest day at Namche Bazaar:  Guest House Accommodation

A moderately easy and beautiful walk to the Sherpa village of Thame (3811m). The monastery high in the hill above Thame can be visited that day or early the next morning. Thame sits on the old trade route from Tibet via the Nangpa La (Pass). Return to Namche.

Day 06: Trek to Dole (4200m):  Guest House Accommodation

Leaving the main trail to Mt. Everest we climb high above the river valleys then drop steeply to a campsite below the village of Phortse (3872m). A short day with spectacular views of Ama Dablam (6856m), Tramserku (6609m), and Kangtega (6780m).

Day 07: Trek to Machermo (4450m):  Guest House Accommodation

A steep but beautiful morning climb through pine and rhododendron forests and then a long but gradual afternoon walk high above the river below. Overnight at Machermo.

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo (4750m):  Guest House Accommodation

An easy but slow day due to the altitude. We arrive at Gokyo- a high altitude Sherpa settlement along one of many lakes which dot the left side of the Ngozumpa glacier. Gokyo and Luza are typical of the high seasonal settlements used by Sherpas for grazing livestock and growing barley and potatoes.

Day 09: Hike Gokyo Ri (5357m). Overnight at Dragnak.  Guest House Accommodation

A rigorous day hike up the ridge (5365m) above camp provides a spectacular view of the Everest trinity – Nupse (7881m), Lhotse (8503m) and Everset (8850m)- as well as Makalu (8477m) looming far in the east. With the Ngozumpa Glacier 609 meter below; the Cho Oyu wall is near to the left; and the trail we take over the Chuguima Pass down to the right – this will be one of the trek’s most memorable day.

Day  10: Cross Chhuguima pass (5420m) or Chola Pass, arrive Dzonghla (4843m):  Guest House Accommodation

This is a steep challenging, but non-technical climb over rock, snow, and perhaps ice. With superb views, this is the most direct and easiest way to link the glacial valleys of Cho Oyu and Everest.

Day 11. Day of rest at Dzonghla (4843m):  Guest House Accommodation

A high altitude pasture directly beneath the north wall of the holatse (3695m) also known as Jobo Laposhan.

Day 12: Trek to Gorak Shep (5182m):  Guest House Accommodation

The trail stays high above Tsholo Lake and joins the main Everest trail near the southern tip of the Khumbu glacier. If the group is fit we will push on to camp at Gorak Shep (5182m) rather than the traditional campsite at Lobouche (4929m).

Day 13: Climb Kala Patar (5545m):  Guest House Accommodation

The classic day hike under the Everest massif and high above the Khumbu glacier and Everest base camp. One can reach well over 5487 meter directly under the snow-coned summit of Pumori (7147m) with views off into Tibet. About half way up the ridge the black diamond of Mt Everest’s south face appears and commands the rest of the day. camp at Lobouche.

Day 14: Retrace trail to to Lobouche (4930m), trek to Dingbouche (4300m):  Guest House Accommodation

An easy day hike south out of the Khumbu glacier to Dingbouche 4298 meter. If time allows a spectacular sunset can be seen from a ridge above Dingbouche.

Day 15: Trek to Chhukhung valley(4730m):  Guest House Accommodation

The Chhukhung valley is the last of the major glacial valleys to be explored and lies directly beneath the largest wall on earth. Chhukhung (4300m) lies directly under a rock ridge which connects Nuptse (7881m) with Lhotse (8503m). Climb Chukung Ridge (5546m)if you are fit,a hard and dramatic ridge hike which climb nearly 823 meter to a small pile of rocks placed by previously grateful visitors. From this spot One can nearly touch the Nuptse- Lhotse wall and views of Pumori, Makalu and Ama Dablam are breathtaking. Return to Dingboche.

Day 16: Trek to Thyangboche (3867m):  Guest House Accommodation

Certainly one of the most beautiful valleywalk on earth. Camp will be in the meadows of the famous Thyangboche monastery and singular beauty of Ama Dablam commands the entire day.

Day 17: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m):  Guest House Accommodation

A sharp drop down to cross the Dudh Kosi once again then the trails climb high to Namche Bazar- winding in and out for several hours with views north up the entire Everest valley.

Day 18: Trek to Lukla (2805m):  Guest House Accommodation

Retrace the trail from Namche Bazar to Phakding – all down hill walking and finally reach Lukla.

Day 19: Kathmandu: Hotel Accommodation

Flight to Kathmandu from Lukla.Transfer to hotel, relax and free day.

Day 20: In Kathmandu: Hotel Accommodation 

Explore Kathmandu own, shopping, etc.

Day 21:Tranfer to airport depart Kathmandu
