This trek is an introduction to Everest and is for anyone who has dreamed of visiting the land of the Sherpa people and standing within sight of Mount Everest. The trek starts at Lukla (2805m) with an easy walk to Phakding. The trail to Namche Bazaar (3445m) gradually ascends. After an overnight stay at Namche the trail descend to the Dudh Koshi river and make steep ascend to Thyangbohce (3866m). The trail from the monastery gradually descends to the river and continues to the open valley at Dingboche (4299m). Retrace the trail back to Lukla. The highlight of the short trek is sherpa culture and very close to high mountain.
Day 01: Lukla. Phakding. - 3 hours walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Fly to Lukla in the morning. Depart Kathmandu at 7 am. Arrive Lukla at 8am. After lunch at Lukla walk to Phakding.
Day 02: Namche Bazar (3445m) - 6 hours walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
The trail follows Dudh Koshi river. After Jorsale the trail makes steep winding path to Namche bazar. Namchebazar is a commercial center of Khumbu region. It is an important stop for trekkers and mountaineers on way to base camps of Everest and many other mountains in that area. It is home of Sherpa ethnic group. Their traditional occupation used to be yak herders and traders. Now due to change in geopolitical condition they have changed their occupation to tourism. They are well known as trekking and mountaineering guides and widely used as high altitude porters by expedition teams. Their religion is Buddhist.
Day 03: Thyangboche (3871m) - 6 hours walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Descend to Punki Thanka. It is an easy down hill walk about 3 hours to Imja khola (river). After lunch walk slowly the steep hill to the ridge top at Thyangboche. The Monastery at Thyangboche is as famous as Namchebazar. It is situated in a beautiful background of Amadablam. Thamaserku and Mt. Everest can be seen from this point. Like Namche it is another must place for tourist to stop. The monastery is a spiritual and cultural center of the region. Visit the monastery and the surrounding area.
Day 04: Dingboche (4298m)- 6 hours walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Walk through the rhododendron forest. Make steady descend to the river and follow it very much on a level path to Pheriche. There is a high altitude aid post at Pheriche. It is staffed by voluntary doctors from western countries.
Day 05: Thyangboche. 5 hour walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Trek back to Thyangboche
Day 06: Namche Bazar - 6 hour walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Retrace the trail back to Namche Bazar.
Day 07: Lukla. 7 hours walk - stay at Lodge accommdation
Retrace the trail back to Lukla. Overnight at Lukla
Day 08: Lukla to Kathmandu.
Fly back to kathmandu, tranfer to hotel, In Kathmandu. Own activities.
Note: Instead of tents in Khumbu (Everest) region it is best to use lodges for sleeping and eating. There are several comfortable accommodation all along the trail. The restaurent attached with the lodge serves meals. When the weather turns very cold it is always confortable to be inside the lodge rather than tent. For short trek instead of taking all foods and equipments from Kathmandu it is best to use local facilities that helps local economy; it is also environment friendly.
We advise all participants not to expect western standard of comfort, lodges have basic but good enough sleeping bed. Using these simple lodgings allows us to offer what for many, is a lifetime dream at an affordable price. For those who wish to have attached bath and toilet facilities, should let us know for special arragement at extra cost.
